Organised by Housing Action Now and the Irish Housing Network in association with the Geography Department of Maynooth University, the People’s Housing Forum believes that those affected, communities, grassroots activists and all interested parties and organisations should work together to challenge this housing crisis and organise for the guaranteed right to housing. The event follows a conference held on October 3rd where 100 people packed out a ‘Housing Emergency and Rights Conference’ in Dublin’s Liberty Hall. After a day of presentations, workshops, debate and discussion, there was a strong consensus that this conference should become a a regular inclusive forum for all those affected by the housing crisis and those who wish to challenge it.
The topics for the People’s Housing Forum will be: Social Housing; Private Rental; Homelessness; Mortgages & Evictions; Traveller Accommodation; Migrants & Direct Provision. The day will close with clearly identified issues on each of the above topics, and a set of demands formed collectively by those present. This will be the People’s Housing Demands. In January we will follow this event with a Peoples Housing Forum 2 focused on Campaigns, Organising and Action around these Demands.
